Of Pedicures

18 03 2010

Due to the Chinese New Year festivities last month, I got myself a rather ‘new year-ish’ (read: ang ang, or red) pedicure. I’d been super lazy to remove the remains of this pedi until recently, which sparked a very funny conversation and creative piece of work on Littlelam’s part.

I’d somehow overlooked a glob of Blu-tac that I’d left on the corner of the table after I’d removed some of the CNY decorations still on the wall, and so the lump of blue clay-like temptation too much for Littlelam. She got her hands on it without me knowing, and I came into the living room to this sight:

Apparently a new, safe for kids version of a temporary pedicure, haha! Of course it didn’t last more than 5 minutes of her walking around, but well, I think it was a good attempt on her part! She was particularly amused with herself and declared, “Look, Mommy!” very proudly, I must say. I showed her my feet and a very interesting conversation ensued:

Littlelam: Your toes [sic] are red, right, Mommy? Mine are blue!
Me: Yeah, you did yours very nicely! That was a very good idea!
Littlelam: Yah, mine is not real.
Me: Yes, little girls shouldn’t be using real nail polish.
Littlelam: Next time when I am bigger, I can, right?
Me: Yeah, sure.
Littlelam: When I am 30 years old?
Me: *choking back a laugh* er, yeah… I think younger also ok. Don’t have to wait till you’re Mommy’s age!
Littelam: How about 20 years old? *pause* I think maybe 12 years old better.

12 years old it is! I shall hold her to her promise that she will only paint her nails when she turns 12!!

On a side note, I reckon this could make a fun girly thing to do with young daughters – get more colours by using playdoh instead!!

Sunday School

29 07 2009

I’m very thankful that my church has a very good Sunday School programme, with teachers (who are volunteers from the church of course) who seem to be doing a good job teaching the kids. Here are some instances when Littlelam revealed what she’s learnt from her sunday classes:

1) In the car, while listening to some kids’ praise songs

Jesus is in heaven, *points to heaven*
and Jesus is in my heart *points to heart*

2) After I told her she couldn’t play hide-and-seek anymore, (after the nth time, btw!):

*pouting and holding back a sob*
I must pray to God, because teacher says when I am sad I must pray to God!

 3) After finding a coin in her pocket:

Oh! I forgot to put the offering!

So after about 5 months attending the proper Sunday School class for 2.5 to 3-year-olds, I’m glad that Littlelam has settled well into the class sans-parent, which means BOTH the hubby and I can attend the service at the same time! Whoopee! something many parents with young kids (and no domestic helper) will find a luxury. I’m also definitely happy that she’s been paying attention, and even more pleased that what she’s been learning is all good stuff. *phew* I hope this also bodes well for when Littlelam eventually starts pre-school!

Donald Duck and the supporting cast

9 06 2009

Today Donald Duck turns 75. He’s played the supporting role to Mickey Mouse for the past seven decades, but I think he’s one wildly successful star in his own right.

Donald-duck

Apparently, I’m not the only one who thinks so, according to this news report.

Since I was a kid, I’ve strangely emphathised with the ‘loser’ or ‘suay’ (as we say here in Sg) character, like Sylvester (vs Tweety Bird), or Wyl. E. Coyote (vs Road Runner), and even Tom (vs Jerry). I always feel very sorry for the poor cat who kena whacked by the little old lady, or smashed to a pulp by a falling anvil… heh.

Anyways, it’s good to know that Donald Duck, the grumpy, quick-tempered feathered fowl is being honoured too, and unfortunately, IMITATED in my own home.

Littlelam is now saying “What’s the big idea!” , which is Donald Duck’s favourite expression.

I console myself that at least it isn’t a rude word!

And to date myself further, I remember playing a great Donald Duck game on SEGA called Quackshot! Can’t find the pic of it, but I did find another game I used to play later on in my adulthood, on the 1st version of Playstation :)
